1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you may not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

Metalyze is an AI-powered research discovery platform designed to assist medical researchers in find and validating novel topics for systematic reviews and meta-analyses. The Service uses large language models to analyze data and provide suggestions.

3. User Accounts

• Account Creation: You must register for an account to access the core features of the Service. You agree to provide accurate and complete information during registration.
• Account Responsibility: You are responsible for all activities that occur under your account and for keeping your password confidential.
• Account Migration: Due to a recent system upgrade (migration from Firebase to Supabase), all users, including those from the previous system, are required to create a new account. Previous account credentials are no longer valid.

4. User Responsibilities

• Bring Your Own Key (BYOK): The Service requires you to provide your own API keys for third-party AI model providers (e.g., Google Gemini, Groq, OpenRouter).
• API Key Security: You are solely responsible for the security and management of your API keys. We store these keys on your local device's storage and they are sent to our backend for the sole purpose of processing your requests. We are not liable for any unauthorized use of your API keys.
• API Costs: You are solely responsible for any and all costs incurred from the use of your API keys with the respective third-party providers. Metalyze is not responsible for monitoring your usage or for any charges you may incur.
• Prohibited Use: You agree not to use the Service for any unlawful purpose or to engage in any activity that could harm the Service, its users, or its reputation.

5. Disclaimers

• As-Is Service: The Service is provided "as-is" and "as-available" without any warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the Service will be error-free or uninterrupted.
• Not Professional Advice: The content and suggestions generated by Metalyze are for informational and research assistance purposes only. They do not constitute professional, medical, or scientific advice. You are responsible for independently verifying all generated information.

6. Intellectual Property

• Our IP: All rights, title, and interest in and to the Service (excluding user-provided content and API keys) are and will remain the exclusive property of Metalyze and its licensors.
• Your Content: You retain ownership of the research ideas and data you input into the Service.

7. Termination

We may terminate or suspend your access to the Service at any time, without prior notice or liability, for any reason, including if you breach these Terms.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Metalyze shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses.

9. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by the laws of Pakistan, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Terms on this site. Your continued use of the Service after any such change constitutes your acceptance of the new Terms.

• API Keys: We require you to provide your own API keys for third-party AI services (e.g., Google Gemini, Groq, OpenRouter). These keys are stored in your browser's local storage and are sent to our secure backend server only when you make a request that requires them. They are used solely to proxy your request to the appropriate third-party service. We do not log these keys on our server.
• Usage Data: We may collect information about your interactions with the Service, such as the features you use and the actions you take. This helps us improve the platform.
• User-Generated Content: We process the research topics, PICO frameworks, and files you upload to provide the core functionality of the Service.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Create and manage your account.
• Provide, operate, and maintain the Service.
• Process your requests and proxy them to the appropriate third-party AI providers using your API keys.
• Improve, personalize, and expand our Service.

3. Data Storage and Security

• User Authentication: Your account information (email, hashed password) is securely managed by Supabase, our authentication and database provider.
• API Keys: Your API keys are stored on your local device (in the browser). They are transmitted securely to our backend when needed and are not stored or logged on our servers.
• Security Measures: We use administrative, technical, and physical security measures to help protect your personal information. While we have taken reasonable steps to secure the personal information you provide to us, please be aware that despite our efforts, no security measures are perfect or impenetrable.

4. Data Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personally identifiable information to outside parties. This does not include trusted third parties who assist us in operating our website or servicing you, so long as those parties agree to keep this information confidential. We may also release your information when we believe release is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce our site policies, or protect ours or others' rights, property, or safety.

Specifically:

• Supabase: We use Supabase for database hosting and authentication.
• Third-Party AI Providers: When you use a feature that requires an API key, we send your request and the corresponding key to that provider (e.g., Google, Groq, OpenRouter) to process your request. Their use of your data is governed by their respective privacy policies.
